The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has taken a proactive approach to strengthening cybersecurity for its regulated entities (REs).
SEBI’s CSCRF, initially detailed in circular SEBI/HO/ITD-1/ITD_CSC_EXT/P/CIR/2024/113 dated August 20, 2024, and further clarified in circular SEBI/HO/ITD-1/ITD_CSC_EXT/P/CIR/2024/184 dated December 31, 2024, underscores the critical importance of safeguarding data and IT infrastructure within the financial sector. The framework sets stringent standards for cybersecurity practices, aiming to enhance cyber resilience across all regulated entities.
The extension comes as a direct response to numerous queries and requests from REs seeking additional time to align their systems with the CSCRF requirements. SEBI’s decision reflects a pragmatic approach, acknowledging the challenges inherent in implementing comprehensive cybersecurity measures, especially for entities operating with complex IT ecosystems.
SEBI has now extended the compliance deadline by three months, until June 30, 2025, for most REs. This extension allows organizations additional time to strengthen their cybersecurity posture.
